My Journey to the Local Church

I am a middle aged Christian sister who has been in the church in Newport News since 1987. A friend led me to the Lord in 1975, so my real church experience began in her denomination. Over a period of 10 years, I was a member of three different churches in that denomination. I was always seeking for a church that really followed the Bible, and one where peopleís hearts were absolute for the Lord. What I found was just a few genuine seekers. Eventually I stopped attending church. One day in desperation I cried out to the Lord, ďIsnít there anyone who can help me? Send help!Ē It took awhile, but the Lord answered my prayer by moving a Christian family from Montana right into my neighborhood.

At my request the wife, a dear sister in the Lord, and I began to read the Life-study messages by Witness Lee on the book of Ephesians because I had never understood that book of the Bible. Ephesians talks about the oneness of the faith and I knew that there had been no oneness of the faith between all the churches I had been to. Through the Life-study I was able to get a glimpse of the church and the oneness in the local churches. After that, I began reading the Life-studies of the entire New Testament. Formerly I had studied the Bible, but never had the Word been opened up to me like this!

Itís wonderful enjoying the Lord with a group of people whose hearts are open to the Lord and who are seeking Him in a sincere and genuine way. This is the church experience I had longed for. Because each person is seeking the Lord by praying and by feeding on the Word, each one has a portion of Christ to share with the rest (John 1:1, 14; 6:57). As we fellowship, we grow and are blended together as part of the genuine Body of Christ (1 Corinthians 12:24).
